Sakyamuni University, named after the historical figure of Buddha, also known as Śākyamuni, doesn't have a centuries-long history like some of the ancient Buddhist sites and institutions in Asia. Instead, it's a relatively new educational institution in the United States, founded on the principles of Buddhist philosophy and modern academic inquiry.

The Namesake: Sakyamuni
Sakyamuni, meaning "Sage of the Shakyas," refers to Siddhartha Gautama, a spiritual teacher from ancient India who founded Buddhism. Born in Lumbini, Nepal, around 563 BCE, Sakyamuni Buddha's teachings emphasize compassion, wisdom, and the path to enlightenment.
